Super Bowl Simplicity: A Digression

After a busy week of post Lombardi Trophy commentary, the world isn’t exactly thirsting for more opinions.  Perfect, say we, for two updates:

First, anyone who thinks the way a spot lands during the “Big Game” is still the ad ballgame is missing the point. USA Ad Meter hype notwithstanding, it’s all in how the spot works before and, most importantly, after the game.  Proof not-so-positive: the fact that Jeep gets caught up in a November DUI problem with The Boss—the spot is a writer’s dream, despite the puzzling 50/50 love/hate measured response to his unity message—prove it’s the small stuff that trips you up.  Reductionism redux.

Second, the Reductionist can’t let the moment pass without making a fierce declaration for the elegant lime + fruit + salt simplicity of guacamole versus the layered complexity of nachos. However, in humble deference to Einstein’s admonition to “make things as simple as they can be, but no simpler,” we do want to suggest adding the tiniest dollop of mayonnaise. Makes the savory perfection a smidge creamier. Feel free to send hate mail back if you disagree.
